Sandakan-Ranau Death March (1942 - 1945)
The Sandakan Track – Best Death March Tour in Borneo

May 2015 :: Sandakan Death March

Dear Tham,

I wish to thank you and your team for an excellent and well organised tour. For me it was an amazing experience. Lynette’s input and research was incredible. With her husband Neil assisting and your senior guide Beverly coordinating it was a great team. Peter, Jimmy, Duin and Sy were excellent guides. Always checking to see we were all right and making sure we had plenty of water! Also Geoffrey was waiting for us with water etc. at the check points. I’m sorry we didn’t get to meet your office coordinator Sylvia, as she was our initial contact and kept the “show on the road” with your good self of course. I’m glad we did get to meet you though. I enjoyed the tour of your family’s well run farm in the Padas River Basin.

Of course the earthquake so unexpected and causing so much death and destruction was very tragic for you all. Some of our group including me would have been on the mountain four days later. I enjoyed my home stay at Kiau village and thanks to you had two nights stay instead of one. So I saw some of the destruction and met some very nice people.

All your guides from the village were affected. Sy gave me a tour and I visited the Jungle Survival Camp. Most interesting, and I got as close as I was going to get to Mt. Kinabalu. That was important for me from a spiritual point of view.

Lynette and Neil are working hard down here raising funds for our friends in Kiau village.

I wish you and your team well and may you all manage get through these difficult times in your lovely country.

Fond memories and kind regards,
Graham Felton
